The pieces lay upon the floor
Shattered memories of a forgotten image
Best let it alone in a dark dungeon
But here I am, just as forgotten
The beginning is difficult
Sorting through the deceitful pieces
Each one swearing to fit with the other
As if your failure is amusing
In time, I find the fragments to a lost smile
Lovely in all its pleasure
The feeling I lost long ago
How I yearn beyond any man for such sensuality
I bring together the face that holds such a smile
A stranger I have not seen before
Though still a friend nonetheless
His happiness brightens up this dark, dank pit
The welcomed company brings a sort of solace
The pieces fit with quiet ease
What forms sets a warm fire in my heart
His surroundings aren’t so different from my own
This man can still find a glorious happiness
This man truly has an everlasting light
I wish to know what brings life to him
I quicken my pace to complete my friend
His right hand is what first gives me pause
Clutching a knife as scarlet as it is sharp
Leaking a life’s liquid from it
His smile becomes disquieting
At his feet a body begins to take shape
Limp with sad death suspended over it
A ragged and pitiful little thing
Torn apart by life as well as by knife
The corner is all that is left
I am driven to never abandon this poor victim
This man needs a witness to his story
A testament of how imbalanced justice is
His face starts to mold together
The terror is impossible to miss
The poor beast was beyond pain
The eyes forever frozen with fear
I shuddered at the man on the ground
His face had faded from me long ago
Now brought to the surface in a mirror of suffering
That pitiful little wretch was me
It was then that I realized I was not alone in this room
